THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE
Christianity being perceived as boring is one of the things that makes me cringe. I used the word "perceive" because in it's true sense, it isn't; just that many people have portrayed it go be "boring". Quite a number of people believe that Christianity, being cranky and condescending go hand in hand. We haven't portrayed the Father the way we should which is quite disheartening. Anyone can be boring but does being a Christian mean you have to be boring? No!
In this current world, we feel the only way to have fun means doing the worldly things (pre-marital sex, binge drinking, etc). Of course, as a Christian, you know what the scriptures says about the things I previously mentioned. But are those the only way to have fun? Of course not. I think I'll one day write on the several ways Christians can have fun. Christianity is many things but not boring! The Christian life is exciting because of what God does through anyone who surrenders to him. I'm pleased to announced to you that my social skills fiercely improved when I came into Christ. The truth is, some are bored by routine while some thrive on it. Many are bored by religion and this happens to people who see Christianity as a religion instead of a relationship with God.
Don't get me wrong, the Christian life is not a series of routines, entertainment or religion, the Christian life is what we are. You might as well just ask me "is breathing supposed to be boring?" or even "are your feelings boring?" The fact is, life can be boring to anyone — both believers and unbelievers.
MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN LIFE.
Being boring is what we're currently talking about, the Christian life is boring and dull and cheerless. Many Christians, do not believe in the "all work and no play".
Another is that everything will be perfect and joyful once you accept Christ. This is not true. Life on earth can be dull, and it can be joyful, the difference to a believer is the Holy Spirit's presence during our lifetime, and the eternal life afterward. We all experience trials, boredom, and death but as Christians, we have comfort for the trials of life, and hope for the afterlife.
Yesterday, I tweeted something on the believer having a good sense of humour and I got all manner of funny reactions. While some supported this and also added all other areas where Christians need to improve when it comes to relating with others and life generally, I got other reactions such as "The bible didnt tell us to live humorously", "There's too many war to fight on earth, we'd start being humorous when we get to heaven", "There is no humour in the kingdom of darkness" "Humour is carnal" etc. I laughed at these replies because I kept saying "Na dem" while giving them an ancestral side eyes. There's a way we can balance these things, know when to use your humour. In everything, modesty and glorifying God are what's important.
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
●You can be a Christian and fashionable.
●You can be a Christian and have a good sense of humour.
●You can be a Christian and smell nice and have a good skin.
●You can be a Christian and interact well with people.
●You can be a Christian and know how to dance (* hides under the table*. Well, my case is different, I'm not naturally a good dancer like that. Don't be like me😊).
These little things are ways we can infiltrate systems and cultures without us being aware of it. Being a Christian doesn't mean you should be locked in and automatically stuck up, walking with your nose in the air.
God is an exciting person and Christianity becomes boring when Christians forget their purpose on earth. Most importantly, God wants us as Christians to influence every sphere of influence (Media, Government, Education, Economy, Religion etc), that light may shine through darkness. Therefore, Dearest Believer, I plead with thee, have good social skills as you're being Spiritual, being social doesn't take away your spirituality.
Thank you!
Joy is our lifestyle. Glorrayyyyy
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice read. There is this christian series on youtube "The Chosen". The way Jesus was portrayed in that movie was exceptional. He laughed, cracked jokes, displayed emotions and the likes. What now happen to we the fellow heirs that we now tighten the whole world to our chest🤷🏻.
ReplyDeleteWell, we as believers should be modest in our actions
Thank you for this 🤗
