PART ONE: NOT JUST A CREATIVE BUT A CHRISTIAN ONE (1)
Creativity is an amazing and beautiful part of human. Having the creator include creativity in the makeup of his creation is mind-blowing when you think about it. Although, man's creative ability grew apart from God through perversion that came as a result of sin but the finished works of Christ redeemed man including his creative ability. What Jesus did for our sake made it possible for man to be able re-align himself to what God created him to be. There are quite a number of creatives out there but a Christian creative has to stand out from the world. Majorly because the foundation and the sole influence of our content is Christ. Therefore, when we are able to get an answer for the “why” of creativity selfishly, we get into trouble. But allowing God answer it, puts our creativity in its right place. Christ refashions and reframes all of our existence—including our creativity. As Christian creatives, our creativity unites to the source of superior excellence that we’re seeking in every piece of art because of Christ - Making our creativity a chorus of God’s glory and a song sung for the world.
To start with, your creativity must be laid on the foundation of Christ. He certainly doesn't stand against your creativity but he must stand over it - Your creativity will always be an instrument of worship. The gospel of Jesus Christ re-created you so that every part of you (including your creative ability) is from Christ, through Christ, and to Christ i.e in all, you know Christ and also make him known. The gospel has re-created your creativity so that it can finally do what it was made to do— sing of God's grace and bring him glory, forever.
As a Christian creative, you find beauty in the places where God has healed you and transformed your creativity. This means you allow God to make his quality restoration into every of your creative acts. Therefore allowing the One who has healed you get the glory of your life and your life’s work. When you do this, the world will see his glory and your eyes will be captured by it, too.
An important thing to note about your Creativity as a Christian is that you can't be selfish with it. It is both for God and your fellow humans. Our creativity is at its best when it lifts our eyes to superior excellence and forces the world to wrestle with its Creator. Your creativity isn't yours when you look at the bigger picture. It was given to you by God- You are only a custodian of it. Your creativity is something bigger than you and it exists for God and others.
Our creativity (creative work(s)) can be compared to a kaleidoscope - they are the colored glass that God shapes and patterns for the world to see through the other end. All we have to do is hand the kaleidoscope (our creative work) to our neighbor; publish it! But we have to remind them that just like the kaleidoscope, the full view of their creativity is seen only when held up to the Light (Christ).
Our Creativity has to be in obedience to Christ. We have the freedom to do all we want with it as long as it's not outside Christ. As a Christian creative, your creativity should irk and assault this worldview. Whenever you put your content out there for others, people in the world should get uncomfortable because you are using your creativity to speak the truth. The most beautiful thing about being a creative is this: Your creativity serves the world at large, especially in this digital age. Your creative work can turn out to be the key to open the prison door where the devil may have kept an unbeliever for years.
You can do what God has made you to do with the option of having a second eye on your contents. You need wisdom, discernment, and counsel from your fellow believers in Christ — not only creatives — to help you assess your gifts and your direction. So that every of your creative work articulates God’s love for your neighbor. The exciting is that God doesn't limit himself to a genre. Every creative act done in his name is used to present his glory in general - declaring his glory and demonstrating this aspect of his nature. Everything God does in this world is for his glory and for our good. As you begin to make use of your creative ability, make sure you are creating something you can be proud enough to lay at the foot of God’s throne.
P.S: In order for this not to be overmuch, I have decided to split it into 2 parts. The other part will be published next week Friday.
