PART TWO: NOT JUST A CREATIVE BUT A CHRISTIAN ONE
Money isn't everything
As important as money is and as much as we are aware that it is a means of exchange on earth, we need to guard our heart on how much we engage our mind with it. In fact, money is something we often are worried about. The thoughts of "how much will this cost?", "how much will it yield?" We should be more conscious about our treasures in heaven first, putting material wealth second. It's a hard balance to keep sometimes, especially in this world where it’s easy to turn a creative work into profit but it isn't impossible to do.
Struggles will show forth
One important thing to note is that in the process, struggles will come, failures may come. But never be afraid to take a risk, because as children of God, you have an edge! - the Gospel edge – which will enable you to respond to problems and failures with uncommon hope and boldness.
Self-worth
This is often something creatives generally deal with. The feeling of having to deal with perfectionism because you feel you are not good enough and the feeling of uncertainty whether anyone would see a meaning in your work begins to envelope you. But as Christian creative, your self-worth is not defined by what you do, but by who you are - God's own child. Above all, know that as a child of God, your hustle is only part of the equation. Trust God and be at rest knowing that ultimately he will produce results through you, and He gets all the glory.
Have God-motive
The world will offer you motives such as money, status, influence but following the call to create means that you no longer work for self-appealing motives, but you work for the glory of the One who has called you to create. Your creative work will take on an entirely richer and meaning, bringing deep gratification when you create to reveal the character of God and spread His love. God deeply cares about what you create because you are a kingdom creator. So, always be intentional about how your faith impacts the totality of what you create. This isn't just all about inserting a cross or a scripture on your work but how wholly the Gospel can be integrated into your work. Creating with questions not just about the possibility of your work and or the market trends, but about what is on God’s heart and what He is leading you to do. There's this myth that anything Christian or "religious" has to be shabbily done. This isn't true, strive for excellence in everything. Prioritize people over profit, make it a goal to exemplify Jesus in every facet of your life!
Above all things, let your creative work show us the brokenness around us that we might see the need of God’s redemption. Show us the beauty in God's uncommon grace that we might rejoice in the tastes of a whole and beautiful world. Without us ever forgetting to wrestle with this tension daily as we rest in God’s promises and join Him in the work of redemption and recreation.
