WHY IT WAS NECESSARY FOR THE BIRTH OF JESUS TO BE A VIRGIN BIRTH

The birth of Jesus has been quite confusing to many. I’ve heard people say “Mary was violated and that she didn’t consent to being pregnant with Jesus”. Well, I’m pleased to inform you that this is 100% false.

Luke 1:26-38 tells us this

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

While we establish that, let’s go into the main topic. Have you ever wondered why Jesus wasn’t born just like the rest of us? Ever wondered why He had to be born of a virgin in order to properly clear all the justice sin was yearning for?

After Adam and Eve sinned, a curse was placed on all the parties involved - Adam, Eve and the Serpent (Satan). Part of the curse placed on the serpent was this:

Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

Looking through this verse, you’d realize it says the SEED of the woman will bruise the head of the serpent. You don’t need to be a medical student to know that it is the man who has the ‘seed’ and not the woman. This should tell you that God gave a glimpse of the redemption of man just right after man had sinned in the Garden of Eden. Also, this means that the ‘seed’ (sperm) of the man would not be required in the birth of Jesus. Instead, a woman will be overshadowed by the Holy Ghost and will birth a child.

Why wasn’t the seed of the man needed to conceive Jesus?

Since the seed of the man wasn’t required for His birth, He didn’t inherit the sin of Adam. He wasn’t born into sin because he wasn’t a descendant of Adam. His father was God, so he was sinless. It was this value of a sinless life, together with his Holy and spotless blood that was required to pay for the sins of the world.

There was no way a sinner could die for sinners. Whoever was going to save the world had to be a Holy and righteous sacrifice - which Jesus was the only qualified candidate. He was fully man and fully God at the same time. He was human yet righteous - He was our substitute.

Also, for God to come down here on earth, it will require him to follow the laws of the earth. I If He is unable find a man to do what he wants and wants to do it by himself, he had to follow the laws of the earth by coming in a human form as a baby, and his body goes through the growth process of the human body.

For those who doubt the virgin birth  of Jesus, if you have difficulty believing in the virgin birth, it actually means that you have difficulty believing in God. Why would you have difficulty believing that a child could come into this world without an earthly father when God made the first woman and the first man out of nothing? Makes no sense!

Have you ever thought about the fact that it is fitting that Jesus (The last Adam) made His decision to save mankind in a garden just as the first Adam made his decision to throw humanity into sin in a garden? Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane when He submitted to the will of God to die on the cross for us just as Adam was in the Garden of Eden when he decided to introduce sin into the world. Wow!

In conclusion, the virgin birth was required because it could only take someone who is sinless to save a sinful world. If there was no virgin birth, we wouldn’t have a sinless Christ. There’ll be No sinless Christ, No atonement of sins, No forgiveness and the other wonderful things we enjoy in Christ Jesus. It is so beautiful to know that Jesus did this and we are beneficiaries of his decision and great love.
