SINGLENESS: MY EXPECTATION VS MY REALITY

Image
Going down memory lane and remembering the sole reason I decided to be celibate and do away with romantic relationships, I realized that I really didn't expect so much going single. Don't get me wrong, my reason for being single was because at that time, I was already having this void in my heart and God was drawing me close to him but I kept resisting him. I had given myself out to everyone who looked like a potential validator but i still couldn't find what I wanted in them. That's basically what happens when you decide to find peace in the creation instead of the creator. I had gotten to that point where I was tired of giving a piece of me to everyone who cared to look my way and I needed to stop rebounding. Staying off romantic relationships was the way out for me. Although, I still did a little pornography and masturbation until I encountered Christ. My encounter with Christ changed my view about being single, dating and marriage. In fact, i found my...

GOD PREPARED ME FOR THE REJECTION MAIL

Image
I went from exuberant to melancholy after receiving a mail that destabilized me on Monday,  20th July. It was a long awaited one and I was quite positive and hopeful to get a good response. But alas, I was wrong. You know that feeling you get when you expect something great to come to you but instead, that great thing decides to run far away from you? Yes, that's exactly it. I felt shattered after I got this mail and I truly can't remember the last time I saw myself cry that much. Well, except I'm worshiping God but after this episode of tears, I wondered why I gave the energy and tears I could have used in worshiping God to cry over a vain thing. I wondered if the reason I felt this way about this opportunity I lost was because I was so positive about it. Oh! I didn't tell you? I can be such a shameless pessimistic person. Why? You may ask me. That's simply because it helps me get through situations when they don't turn out well. So, being pessimist...

PRAISE DOES IT, WORRY DOESN'T

Image
Worrying about a situation is as easy as praising through a situation, it's a common temptation we face as believers. Praise and worry literally consume the same energy, only that the energy is towards two different directions making one negative and the other positive. Worrying multiplies your problem while praising/praying gives you immesurable peace in Christ. Keeping your worry tabs open gives access to the enemy to penetrate into your life. More like you create an atmosphere for him to take a chair on the discussion table in your heart and join the conversation going on in your head. Worry never solves anything. ( Can all your worries add a single moment to your life. Matthew 6:27 NLT). I've learnt not to stress or put self under unnecessary pressure when I know I'm not in control or can't control a situation. My advantage is that I know someone who is in control of the situation. Therefore, I put myself to sleep; I rest in his arms, leaving ...

YOU HAVE A PURPOSE

Image
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 NLT Finding purpose is absolutely one out of the many things that gives the human race a great concern. "What is my purpose in life?" is a common question we ask ourselves. It can be very frustrating to see others do tangible things while you're there looking purposeless. A lot of people go about living their lives with the thought of "I have no purpose on this earth". But that's a big lie from the pit of hell. God didn't create anyone without a purpose. Did you think God's hands became so itchy that he decided and said "Oh, I'll just create this human to roam aimlessly on the earth?", Of course not. Knowing that you didn't put yourself on this earth with the assurance that there's definitely a superior force behind your existence should propel you to know why you were put on th...

WHY DOES THE BIBLE REFER TO CHRISTIANS AS SHEEPS?

Image
Looking at the old testament of the bible, sheep were sacrificial animals used for the remission of sins and this is also why Jesus is referred to as the "Lamb of God". A lamb is a baby sheep and Jesus being the son of God who died for our sins is called the "Lamb of God". So many times in the scriptures, God refers to us as his sheep while he's the shepherd. Shepherding was one of the lowliest occupations; it was done by people who were unqualified to take up better jobs in the society. Most of the time, shepherding was done by the last child of the family. We can see this in the life of David who was a shepherd boy before becoming the king of Israel. In fact, he was seen as insignificant in the family to the point that he wasn't included as a candidate for kingship. It takes the humble to do such a job as this and this must have been the reason Jesus being the meekest person ever lived called himself a shepherd. I've wondered so many times why God chos...

DOES GOD HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOUR?

Image
The justification of some Christians that God doesn't have a sense of humour strikes me like a thunder. How do you say a God who created man in his image according to his likeness has no humour? If man does have a sense of humour, so does God. Man's sense of humour may have been somewhat corrupted/perverted due to sin but it doesn't change the fact of the discussion matter. For example, God has intellect just like we do, he is creative just like we are, he feels sad just like we do etc but the sinful nature can make us misrepresent the true nature of God. If God has no sense of humour, I think we should question where man got his. Our sense of humour may not exactly be the same because there are some despicable things human find funny that God will not find funny. A joyful, cheerful heart brings healing to both body and soul. But the one whose heart is crushed struggles with sickness and depression. Proverbs 17:22 TPT The latter part explains what happens when your heart ...

THE TRANSITION

Image
Grief is one things life will throw at us. Nothing breaks us more than loosing someone you deeply love or admire. I've lived this week seeing people i admire and the loved ones of my beloveds leave the earth and it got me thinking about how fickle life is. There's absolutely nothing wrong with grieving even as a Christian. Lost someone special? Please grieve, cry, do all that you need to feel better; no one will hold it against you. There's no one way to grieve, people grieve differently. So, do all that you need to get past this stage of your life. Death can be tragic and sorrowful because you know the only thing you have to hold on to about this person are the memories you've created with them. As sad as you may be while grieving, never forget that if this person was in Christ before their departure, they are in safe hands. Therefore, grieve hopefully knowing that one day, you both will high five, hug and smile at each other in heaven....
